FAQ’s

Hypnotherapy

Suggestion therapy will have immediate effect (although it may be a little while before you or your family notice more subtle changes.)

The feeling of relaxation and peacefulness felt after a session of hypnotherapy lasts for some time (often hours) afterwards.

Psychotherapy

This is the longest and most involved of the therapies offered at Bedford Health.  Results are rarely immediate but change starts gently around weeks 4-6.  We are dealing with the release and sorting of emotion and emotional events so it takes a little while to see changes.

Applied Psychology

The first session is designed to give you an overview of your issues (why they’re happening) and you will then be given techniques to use which can see change within a few days, depending upon how frequently they’re used.

Sue can give you techniques for change, help you see how they would help but can’t do them for you.  That’s your part.  She will give you all the support you need and techniques are often adapted to fit the personality and goals of the client.

With a reasonable amount of effort you’ll see great change.  With a huge amount of effort you’ll see amazing results!

Your response to all therapy is very individual, however, experience and intensive training allow Sue to personalise the therapy for each client to maximise positive results.

The most critical aspect influencing the success of therapy is the relationship between the client and the therapist.

A good therapist will offer a free screening session, so that you can meet prior to treatment. Ensuring the right therapy is selected and that you feel comfortable with the therapist and confident in their abilities.

You should never feel under pressure to sign up to therapy and be able to go away and consider your choice.

Yes. They should be qualified and a member of a respected Therapy and organisation, to ensure a professional service and an ethical code of conduct.

Experience counts for a lot in therapy.  Like all professions, the better therapists will be practising for many years.  They will also have regular training to keep up to date with improving techniques and scientific evidence

Hypnotherapy

No, you are in control at all times and you can bring yourself out of hypnosis at any time you choose.

Should someone ask you to do something which you do not wish to do, or which is against your own moral standards, you would ignore the suggestion and immediately bring yourself out of hypnosis.

As a professional therapist, Sue will make sure that the session reflects your needs and goals, and is positive and comfortable.  This is where experience comes in…Sue has worked with thousands of clients since 2005 and adapts each session to the client

Psychotherapy

The release of emotion and sorting of emotional events can be hard work.  Sue will make sure that you feel supported throughout your therapy.

Applied Psychology (Relaxed Living Programme)

Sue does not pressure clients to “face up to” their fears and phobias.  Rather she gently supports you while you get more comfortable in your own skin to the point where you begin to see and handle life differently.  As your self esteem grows you’ll find yourself doing the things you hated/avoided without giving it much thought

Yes, provided they are willing to participate and excluding those who are mentally handicapped, or under the influence of drink or drugs.

Hypnosis is neither dangerous nor can you get “stuck” in it.  Sue will explain what you can expect before you start the session.

Clients will often say they’ve been hypnotised previously but it “didn’t work”  Often this is because their expectations of what can be achieved are unrealistic or because they thought they’d disappear off into some place where they don’t know what’s happening.  Hypnosis is essentially relaxation and concentration so you’ll be relaxed but able to hear everything being said and able to leave at any point.
