FAQ’s

Hypnotherapy

Suggestion therapy will take effect anywhere from immediately to within a few hours.  Sometimes family and friends notice change before clients because the issue they had is not longer an issue and they stop paying attention to it

The feeling of relaxation and peacefulness felt after a session of hypnotherapy lasts for some time (often hours) afterwards.

Psychotherapy

This is the longest and most involved of the therapies offered at Lutterworth Health.  Results are rarely immediate but change starts gently around weeks 4-6.  We are dealing with the release and sorting of emotion and emotional events so it takes a little while to see changes, but when they come they will change your outlook on life and lift any “weight” you have been carrying.

Applied Psychology (The Relaxed Living Programme)

The first session of the Relaxed Living Programme is designed to give you techniques you can learn easily (7 year olds use them too).  This means that, with a small amount of effort you will see small changes in the first few days afterwards.  Each week this expands and improves.  Eventually it just becomes second nature to live without your issues

Your response to all therapy is very individual, however, experience and intensive training allow Sue to personalise the therapy for each client to maximise positive results.

The most critical aspect influencing the success of therapy is the relationship between the client and the therapist.

A good, experienced therapist will offer a Free Screening Session, so that you can meet prior to treatment. Ensuring the right therapy is selected and that you feel comfortable with the therapist and confident in their abilities.

You should never be put under pressure to sign up to therapy and be able to go away and consider your choice.

When you have the right therapist you’ll look forward to your therapy sessions.  Sue’s clients often say that they feel just a bit better for just having had a phone chat and having booked a Free Screening Session, and that’s before therapy!!!

Yes. They should be qualified and a member of a respected therapy organisation, to ensure a professional service and an ethical code of conduct.

Experience counts for a lot in therapy.  Like all professions, the better therapists will have been practising for many years.  They will also have regular training to keep up to date with improving techniques and scientific evidence

A good knowledge of psychology is key.  Anyone can be taught how to hypnotise, only those with deeper knowledge will know how, when and what to do to help you reach your goals

Hypnotherapy

No, you are in control at all times and you can bring yourself out of hypnosis at any time you choose.  Hypnosis cannot be used to control someone’s thoughts or actions.

Should someone ask you to do something which you do not wish to do, or which is against your own moral standards, you would ignore the suggestion and immediately bring yourself out of hypnosis. (Stage shows are not all they seem and take place under very different circumstances.)

As a professional therapist, Sue will make sure that the session reflects your needs and goals, and is positive and comfortable.  This is where experience comes in…Sue has worked with thousands of clients since 2005 and adapts each session to the client

Psychotherapy

The release of emotion and sorting of emotional events can be hard work.  Sue will make sure that you feel supported throughout your therapy and that you leave the building feeling calm and ready to get on with your day.

Applied Psychology (Relaxed Living Programme)

Sue gently supports you to learn alternative ways of thinking and seeing situations.  The techniques she offers are easy to learn (7 year olds use some of them) and will become second nature very quickly.  Hypnotherapy is possible but not often used in this programme

Yes, provided they are willing to participate and excluding those who are severely mentally incapacitated, or are under the influence of drink or drugs.

Hypnosis is neither dangerous nor can you get “stuck” in it.  Sue will explain what you can expect before you start the session.

Clients will often say they’ve been hypnotised previously but it “didn’t work”  Often this is because their expectations of what can be achieved were unrealistic or because they thought they’d disappear off into some place where they don’t know what’s happening.

Hypnosis is essentially relaxation and concentration so you’ll be relaxed but able to hear and remember everything being said and able to leave at any point, should you wish. Although that’s never happened!!

After 18 years of practice, you’ll be hard pressed to find a more experienced Hypnotherapist and Sue’s first job is to put you at your ease and to explain, in detail, exactly what you can expect.  You’ll leave a hypnotherapy session relaxed and calm, regardless of why you came

Sue has been offering specialist therapy for children for the past 18 years.

Over that time their needs and issues have changed massively.  In 2005 it was mainly bedwetting and anger issues.  Today it’s anxiety, panic attacks, depression, phobias, unwanted thoughts, and unhelpful or damaging habits

Kids between 7 and 15 years make up 25% of the clients in therapy at any one time at the clinic.

Parents are with them during therapy, so you’re never out of the loop and can help your child follow simple techniques between sessions.
